The apartment was nothing grand, just a homey 2 bedroom place shared by sisters. What made it unique was the absolute clash of styles that adorned it. A red leather chair, tapped with long strands of black electrical tape at the worn edges, sat against one wall while it's pristine white counterpart faced it with what might be the furniture equivalent of disgust. A simple wrought iron table sat between them, glass top not daring to lean toward one fashion statement or the other.
The rest of the place was equally at odds, the very personalities of Holly and Dawn Granger seemed to seep from the walls. Red and white and pale blue splashed here and there. A lovely Zen garden sat on a shelf next to it a raggedy turn table bearing an old Ramones record and a signed photo of Johnny Rotten.
All of this and the tussled red haired form of one Holly Granger greeted Don. A hand one her hip, black wife beater tucked into gray sweats, and oddly out of place bunny slippers on her feet. Eyes fixed on him from her lean in the doorway, not yet letting him fully enter. But the feeling, the sensation of calm that came over her in the presence of her sister was apparent with this guy.
"So...you're the old guy. Old Dove I mean." You can't hide that sort of effect on another person.
His had was taken, shaken and held just a moment before released. "Don, right. Holly."
Talk about awkward, his brother had been dating..well..yeah just leave it at that, her sister. Before the whole time mix up thing happened. Now it was like none of it ever happen, and in some ways that was a literal truth.
"So come on in." She lead the way, dropping into the red leather chair and throwing her legs up over the arm of it. "Dawny's out, she needed some air, apparently she has alot on 'er mind these days."
Don sits in the opposite chair, sitting more traditionally. "That's... actually what I was hoping to talk to you about, if you don't mind. I was hoping you could tell me how Dawn is handling all... this."
Direct and to the point, she could respect that. "She's a l'il devastated. Not only with the whole baby thing but now what she thought ain't exactly what was real. Even fer 'er that's a hard thing ta deal with."
Holly propped her head in her hand and looked at Don. "Tell ya what though. Yer brother's a lucky bloke, if it'd been me you'd be hosing one of us down off the pavement about now."
Don smiles. "That sounds like a plan. Give them some space. Normally, I'd be worried about leaving Hank to talk alone, but Dawn seems to have a good effect on Hank."
Just like her sister. "You need ta loosen up, Donny." She patted his shoulder and walked out, returning a moment later with a bottle of water. Ice cold, recycled and Earth friendly, Dawns of course.
He takes the bottle. "Perfect. Thanks." He smiles at Holly, honest and straightforward. "So... if we're sharing our powers like this, I suppose we should get to know each other. Tell me a bit about yourself, Holly."
If she had learned anything in the last year with Dawn, she knew how to anticipate the needs of the fairer sibling, the same rules applied for Don.
"Not too much to say, our parents split when we were young. I stayed in England, Dawn came 'ere. Life happened. I learned to deal." She shrugged and sipped her own less wholesome beverage.
"Our folks didn't exactly keep us in touch, I thought Dawny was dead. When I found out I came lookin' for 'er. S'how I guess I got caught up in this Hawk an Dove thing."
"An yer a lot like Dawn. Considering how cute you are that's a bit awkward." Cute yes, like a male version of her sister, also yes. This was limiting the amount of interest she could actually feel for him without feeling weird.
"She's a sweetheart awright." There was an uncanny similarity between Don and Dawn, but he had something else, a resonance that she hadn't felt with Dawny. Maybe it had to do with the fact that they were not blood related.
"An yer not so bad yerself I guess. Easier on the eyes anyway."
Ohhh a blush. He really shouldn't have done that, it only encouraged her. Holly grinned like a Cheshire cat at him.
"My pleasure, 'course could be yours too if ya play yer cards right." She was being a horrible flirt and she knew it, but such was the nature of her particular Chaos.
